Andy Oppenheimer AIExpE MIABTI is an author, analyst & consultant in counter-terrorism and CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear weapons & explosives). He is Editor-in-Chief of CBNW (Chemical, Biological & Nuclear Warfare) and CBNW Xplosive magazines, and author of IRA: the Bombs and the Bullets (Irish Academic Press, 2008) and the first in a science-fiction trilogy, Fields of Orion (Amazon, 2019).

He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Explosives Engineers and a Member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators. He has written hundreds of articles for specialist defence and security journals, provides consultancy and interviews to media, and presents at conferences worldwide.

Update on Dissident Irish Republican Use of IEDs in Northern Ireland

Recent examples of attacks using IEDs in NI; types of devices & explosives, supply sources; police finds of explosives and devices; groups involved and how they have morphed – younger recruits and old PIRA; sporadic incidents but still a threat requiring frequent EOD callouts; danger & disruption to traffic, the public, evacuations during EOD operations; compared to ‘The Troubles’ they are less well organised with far less capability, but well financed; PSNI numbers, how are they coping? Is there a threat to the mainland? [By March] how has Brexit and the border affected this?
